WHAT CAN ONE
pair of eyes, hands, lungs, feet,
with the highest of hopes,
the best of intention,
and a bottomless pit
of obstinate grit
or a too-shy demeanour
with limited time,
a shortage of cash
and a surplus of passion,
and if we’re going to be honest,
just a smidgin of knowledge
about what relevant difference
makes an actual difference
or even a dent
in this disfigurement
of Earth systems breakdown
(or, take your pick,
among any global mess)
DO
- but dig in? Dig deep,
let the worms finally turn.
Listen hard to trusted sources
riddle out malicious forces
replenish our primordial gloop
enrich a new microbial soup
of This Has Gone Far Enough.
Reclaim the ground
produce a fine tilth
with folks you can learn from
the rest - let them sink
for one day, de-spirited
they’ll seek out the light
of your positive outlook,
take up their gripes
and dig deep alongside you.
That’s what one can do.
